Joining a community - a finished quilt top!

I've joined instagram!!! It is such an amazing community to find inspiration. There are so many crafty people out there! As mentioned earlier, I joined the #scrappylogcabinQAL (blogged about it here) and it has been such an amazing experience! We post every week the blocks that we make - it is so nice seeing what other people do! And commenting on people's posts, and having your posts commented on - it's like having a crafty conversation! Wonderful!

I can't believe it, but only after two weeks, I've finished my quilt top! I have never finished anything so fast! I think it is all because of this wonderful community that I find myself in! People are so nice and encouraging as well! Well - because of this wonderful experience, I am looking forward to doing other quilt alongs that come up! =)

I love the scrappiness of this quilt. This is actually my first scrap quilt and I am thrilled with not just the result but the process as well! I didn't realize how sentimental it would be to put together fabric from remnants of different projects made for loved ones. Oh how wonderful it is to have all of that love in one project! Although I have several loved ones birthdays coming up - I keep telling myself that this one will stay here. In our home. Because it signifies so much of the family that we hold close to us on the mainland. In a small way - it is like keeping a bit of them close with us.

Do you like scrappy projects?

    1. Hi a maidenhair fern! I love the name of your blog! It makes me think of 'the lady of shallot' =) The bumbo is my best friend when all of his other seats get boring! He loves being able to see and 'talk' to me in his baby talk while I'm working. Thank you for your kind words! I just started writing down the layout of my projects - since having a baby I've had to become more organized since I leave my project a lot more. I would love to hand quilt it, but I have another hand quilting project that needs to take precedent (Oh why can't we have more time and more hands!) I think I'm going to take my walking foot and do straight lines a 1/4 inch away from the blocks and around the border. Perhaps do some hand quilting with pearl 8 cottons to get my itch out for hand quilting. =) Thank you so much for stopping by!

  2. Lovely quilt, so much fun! And WOW, so quick!
Yes I like scrappy projects, but have actually not made many. My stash is growing now, so in the near future will be able to. A scrappy Christmas quilt is already in the plannign!

    1. Hi Esther! Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet comments! This is my first scrappy quilt and I think I'm addicted! It's so nice to be able to use what you have on hand. =) My stash isn't very big, but after a couple of projects, I'm surprised at how the scrap bin gets so full! I've been online looking for scrap buster projects and there is actually a lot of information out there! How exciting for your scrappy Christmas quilt!

  3. There's so much fun and color in your scrappy log cabin---I love it! But even better is your little quilting buddy sitting up there with you while you work. Enjoy it! Pretty soon, you'll have to keep him far away from fabric piles and rotary cutters!
